Studies have shown that students who have access to all school requirements are likely to go to school every day compared to those who don’t have, as they tend to avoid the shame.
While the constitution of Kenya guarantees that every child has a right to free education, poverty remains the greatest challenge facing school-going children. Learning materials including pens, books, and other stationery are largely left to the parent to buy, which is a disadvantage to less privileged families. Coupled with other hidden costs that parents have to pay to keep children in schools, many children end up skipping school attendance or dropping out of school altogether.
