We appreciate those who like to plan for the future and find creative ways to have a lasting, meaningful impact on future generations. CFK Africa is grateful to accept legacy and estate gifts, and our team is more than happy to work with you throughout every step of the process.
If you do plan to make a legacy or estate gift, please let us know so we can recognize your contribution and ensure it has the impact you intend.
You can add CFK Africa to your will with as little as one sentence and gift property, cash, business interest, or a percentage of real estate, among other options.
We’ve included sample language below that you are welcome to share with your attorney, but we recommend that you speak with your attorney about specific language needed for restricted, contingent, or residual gifts.
I give to Carolina for Kibera, Inc. (DBA CFK Africa), a North Carolina nonprofit organization, [specified $ or % amount of the value] of my estate at the time of my death.
If you are interested in making a planned gift to CFK Africa but do not want to update your will, you can list CFK Africa a beneficiary on your retirement account(s) and/or life insurance policy.
Legacy gifts (also known as estate gifts) are planned future gifts to nonprofit organizations often included in an individual’s will. Legacy gifts can also be made by listing a nonprofit as the beneficiary of a life insurance policy, retirement account, or remaining resources in a bank or investment account.
As they are most often unexpected, legacy gifts can be transformative for nonprofits, and they serve as a meaningful way for individuals to continue contributing to causes that were important to them even after their lifetime.
Some forms of legacy gifts, including naming CFK Africa as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy or retirement account, can reduce your taxable estate. We recommend contacting your tax advisor to explore the potential financial benefits of leaving a legacy gift.
Legacy gifts can either be unrestricted or restricted. Unrestricted gifts can be used to cover any of CFK Africa’s expenses while restricted gifts must be used for programs, projects, and/or services specified by the donor. Our team is happy to work with you to ensure your gift has the impact you intend.
We welcome the opportunity to work with you regardless of the amount you choose to give. Please email katrina@cfkafrica.org to discuss legacy and estate gifts in more detail.
