Why I Give to CFK Africa – “We’re All Connected”

On our 25th anniversary, CFK Africa donors reflect on their support.

Tamara Porter of Charlotte, North Carolina, shares why our work matters to her:

What inspired you to first support CFK?

I have been traveling to Kenya for quite a while – after my first global philanthropy experience, I was hooked. For eight years, I tried to visit Kibera, and that door finally opened when I met CFK Africa co-founder Rye Barcott on the patio of my restaurant. That day was a blessing. I visited CFK’s facilities and met the Kibera Soccer women in January 2025.

What part of CFK’s work resonates most deeply with you?

CFK’s model of empowering young leaders and building solutions from within the community resonates deeply. It’s sustainable, respectful, and truly transformative.

Why does CFK’s work matter? Why should others care about our global neighbors?

We’re all connected. Every person has value and potential, and investing in our global neighbors is about partnership, not charity, it’s how lasting change happens.

What impact have you seen from your support?

What I witnessed in CFK’s clinics in Kibera directly inspired us to build our own medical clinic in Nakuru. I’ve seen how access to quality healthcare restores dignity and creates real hope, and that impact continues to multiply. I believe we’re called to love and serve others, and it’s a privilege to be part of work that reflects God’s calling.
