Violet Adhiambo, a first-time mother living in Dagoretti, a less populated slum about 2.6 kilometers from Kibera, faced all the usual anxieties of expecting her first child. She worried about affordability, hospital accessibility, and whether emergency services would be available if needed.
Like many first-time mothers, she had heard stories of less-than-ideal experiences at other public hospitals, fueling her concerns about how her delivery would go. Fortunately, three years ago, her sister, who lives in Kibera, delivered her baby at CFK Africa’s Tabitha Maternity Home (TMH). Her sister described the facility as “kuzuri, safi na wanatunza watu vizuri” loosely translated to mean “it’s good, clean, and they treat people well.” That simple sentence put Violet’s mind at ease.
Three months before her due date, she decided to visit TMH.
From her first visit in April through the delivery and post-natal care, Violet has experienced the high-quality care she had hoped for. The staff at TMH not only provided excellent medical support, but also ensured that she felt informed and comfortable throughout the process.
Now, with a healthy two-month-old baby, Violet continues to attend her post-natal check-ups. She even has a direct line to Stella, the Head Nurse at TMH, giving her the peace of mind that expert care is just a phone call away.
To us, Violet’s story reflects the broader impact of CFK Africa’s broad array of services, which serves not just Kibera but surrounding communities like Dagoretti. It’s a place where mothers find the utmost care and support they need to bring their babies into the world safely.
