Ghetto Radio 89.5 featured CFK Africa and their partners, Save the Children on World Pneumonia Day, November 12, 2024.
The interview highlighted the ongoing issue of pneumonia, an epidemic needing immediate action from the government, including the maternal mortality rate (MMS), currently standing at 594 deaths per 100,000 live births, and a child dies every 43 seconds from the disease.
Informal settlements face additional challenges in preventing and treating pneumonia, including financial constraints, lack of education, and low access to adequate healthcare services.
To begin addressing these challenges, CFK Africa and Save the Children shared several steps communities can begin to take. These include, ensuring living environments are clean and conducive for children; save children from preventable diseases via immunization; learning to save money for healthcare needs; planning for your child’s healthcare in advance; and clearing one’s pneumonia dosage for future health.
CFK Africa and Save the Children are partners in fighting to lessen the burden of pneumonia and other healthcare inequities across informal settlements in Kenya.
