“At least 600 young women have returned to school through the group’s programme.”

CFK Africa received an award this month from Isuzu East Africa for its decades-long girls’ empowerment efforts championing girls and young women in Kenyan informal settlements through health, education, and sports initiatives.

“Adolescent girls in Kibera are knowledgeable, resourceful, and solutions-focused.”

“What drives me is my family and my child. I believe in my potential and strive to do better every day.”

“We understand that girlhood and adolescence are marked by significant growth, development, and change, filled with vulnerabilities and incredible opportunities and potential,” said CFK Africa Executive Director Jeffrey Okoro.

“In summary, for nonprofit organizations, NGOs, and government entities working to increase economic opportunity for women or combat IPV in communities around the world, considering the connection between the two is key.”

This new mother of three is transforming her future through education.

CFK Africa launched the expansion of its girls’ empowerment initiative this week to support teenage mothers. The Funzo project improves the health, wellness, and educational outcomes of teenage mothers residing in informal settlements in Kenya, including Nairobi and Kilifi Counties.

As students were sitting for their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examinations at the end of 2022, Esther Askoye, student at the neighboring Olympic High School in Kibera, delivered a healthy baby girl at CFK Africa Tabitha Maternity Home. Hours later, she took her national Agriculture examination in the same clinic.
